Night Genes – “Soaring Through The Chromosomes”

Not everything will be enjoyed by everyone who comes into contact with it. Some songs may be pleasing to some, but cacophonous to others. The music of Night Genes is deep and multi-faceted, and meant to be listened to multiple times. All the layers of meaning may not be readily apparent to the listener at first.

“Soaring Through The Chromosomes” begins with bold instrumentation that immediately sets a serious tone for the piece, almost challenging the listener to continue. Eric Ingersoll’s voice kicks in, and reaffirms that this song is not meant to merely be played in the background of a party. His voice has a kind of rough quality to it that not everyone may enjoy. The additional female vocal does not smooth out the sound, but rather makes it even more strident. Some may chalk this up to a bad song, but anyone who knows folk music knows that it’s not the voices that matter, it’s what those voices are saying. “Soaring Through The Chromosomes” is the kind of song that must be studied in order to be appreciated fully, and certainly the kind of song that will have both its fans and its detractors.
