M83 Hired to Write Soundtrack for New Sci-Fi Thriller Oblivion

Anthony Gonzalez, the architect behind the Indie-Electro band M83, has been hired to write the score for the new Joseph Kosinski directed, Sci-Fi thriller, Oblivion. Oblivion, which is scheduled to be released on April 26th, 2013, is already receiving a substantial amount of hype. Kosinski, who also directed Tron: Legacy, which received immense praise for its Daft Punk-scored soundtrack, made the executive decision to hire Gonzalez for the project after he had been excessively listening to M83, while writing the script for the movie. The movie depicts the journey of Jack Harper (played by Tom Cruise), who is one of the few remaining “drone repairmen stationed on Earth.” His role is tied to a massive operation which aims to extract important information that is vital in an ongoing war with an alien race. Gonzalez, in an interview with “The Playlist,” said this of the task placed in front of him:

“I’m not afraid to do my first soundtrack on a big Hollywood movie, with a big budget and a lot of pressure… I like challenges and it excites me more than frightens me.”

It’s clear this movie is going to be a Science Fiction lover’s dream; we can only hope that Gonzalez will make it a music enthusiast’s dream as well. Also, look for a cameo appearance from Gonzalez in the film, as this seems to be a trend of Kosinski’s.
