Fans Boost Beastie Boys To Top Of Charts

As you’ve probably heard by now, Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys passed away on Friday May 4, 2012 at the age of 47, following a long battle with cancer. The loss was incredibly sad. In addition to being a gifted musician, Yauch was a dedicated activist, organizing benefit concerts to raise awareness for the crisis in Tibet.

Since his death, fans have paid homage by opening up their wallets. Beastie Boys’s debut album Licensed to Ill hit the #3 slot on the iTunes charts this morning. The band also had 5 other albums reach the top 50, and 3 releases in the top 200. The group was also recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s terrible that all this success coincides with the loss of Adam Yauch, but it’s also a beautiful tribute.
