Arctic Monkeys – “R U Mine?”/”Electricity”
On April 24, 2012, British indie rockers Arctic Monkeys released two new singles: “R U Mine?” and “Electricity.” The two singles are available for purchase together on iTunes for $1.98.
“R U Mine?” is the A-side track, and deservedly. The song has a great riff carrying through most of the song, played on a distorted electric guitar, and complemented by solid drumming. There are a few funky bends thrown into the guitar sound for a little flavor, and a brief a cappella break with falsetto back ups. A quick yet potent guitar solo comes along, followed by another quick a cappella break, before the track kicks back in with full intensity. The chorus is simple, but it has a strong hook to it that’ll lodge itself deep in your brain.
The B-side is “Electricity.” The guitar and the drums drive just as hard as in “R U Mine?,” if not harder. The vocals are lower and feel tamer than in the A-side track, but that loss is made up for in a wailing guitar that frequently screeches from the background, and at one point steps forward for a psychedelic solo. The song ends abruptly and discordantly, which fits well with the overall feel of the track.
Below you’ll find “R U Mine?” followed by “Electricity” for your listening pleasure. Enjoy, I know I did.
